The Parisian Bento – this is the way NANASHI describes itself. Short and sweet! It is that and so much more. It is a canteen like place to grab lunch or dessert, meet up with friends for a fresh and healthy brunch on a Sunday, buy a few organic greoceries on your way home or just drop in to read a magazine and have a fresh squeezed juice on your break.

The menu is a localized japanese bento with vegeterian and carnivore options. Since the portions are light one will have room to taste one of their tasty desserts like the carrot cake or the cheesecake.

Currently Nanashi has two locations: behind Republique and rue Paradis.

This recently opened frenchified burger place may not be the absolute best place for authentic burgers but it is a cosy place to go for a brunch, see and be seen, and reminisce about cold bud, cole slaw, carrot cake, corn flakes, etc. The uncharacteristically high percentage of small children in the restaurant adds to the relaxed atmosphere of what could otherwise be called another snooty bobo hangout together with the spontaneous blowing out of light fuses cheered on by the surprised guests. Thumbs up for the decor, high school cafeteria-tasting coleslaw and quick service. Industrial-tasting carrot cake, though, wouldn’t be missed.

LES ENFANTS PERDUS

On a cold or rainy evening you want to comfort your soul and stomach…then go to this tiny new tavern. With its soft lighting, low ceilings, friendly relaxed atmosphere, Les Enfants Perdus are the children of the gentleman farmer. The team at work is young and laidback despite the starched uniforms. The kitchen timely churns out meticulously prepared and in most cases, revisited, french dishes on a menu that changes from season to season.

The brunch atmosphere is great, but better to call before you head out to reserve a table.

CANNIBALE CAFE

A popular cafe, bar, restaurant between Belleville and Menilmontant with a beautifully restored interior of moulding and tile. Great place to get some work done on your own before your friends join you for an originally fashioned burger and a beer. If you have no other plans, stick around for mix sessions every Friday and Saturday nights. Sundays are dedicated to brunch and live music starting at 18h.
