Bobo and Proud!

“Would I like this in my home?” This is what Bénédicte Chevallier asks about every items she displays in her boutique. And the pastel-hued treasures she collects create an ‘English Rose’ universe of tiny angel wings, hearts and freshened up furniture pieces from the century past.

This is a wonderful place to get unique house warming or baby shower gifts, even with just 10 euros in your pocket. And do not be surprised if you stumble in and see wine being offered. This is also a spot to buy and taste exotic wines in Paris.

Finally, “Atelier” is for the painting workshops for kids Bénédicte hosts and “Pablo” is for one of her beautiful two boys.

Ok, it is not the most incognito of places but for the simple “quality vs price” ratio and the authentic “turn of the 19th century” atmosphere, this brasserie cannot be overlooked. At Chartier one will find strangers – tourists and locals alike – seated at the same table, refined waiters excelling in arithmetics, and simple fresh (best of all) cheap classic french dishes. What other national monument serves a salad for 2.20 euros or steak and fries for 12 euros? Try to come before 20h to avoid the wait and dont enter with a migraine, the noise can be overwhelming.

First you’ll push the door open and be confronted with the inevitable question, did you make reservations? If yes, the owner himself will seat you and make a formal introduction on the history of the restaurant ( the restaurant dates back to 1942), the secret behind their sauces ( various ways they use oranges) and proceed to explain that evening’s menu – traditional soups, foie gras, sardines, duck, beef – all cooked fresh without the use of microwaves or freezers. Once you order you will be left to look around at all the memorabilia, start with a house aperitif cocktail and prepare yourself to be treated to a hearty and flavourful meal. Dinner for two with wine is around 70 euros.

Fresh, authentic ingredients make for the best pizza in the center of Paris!


Ran by Italians who weekly import their own fresh mozzarella, excellent main courses and definitely the best and finest pizza in the neighborhood and arguably in the city. ( There are several other Italian restos in the perimeter but they are really not worth mentioning.) Atmosphere is very casual. There is an upstairs room which is great for bigger groups. Wednesday and Friday is Lobster Spaghetti. The bruschetta is amazing! Don’t leave without sharing a classic or a berry tiramisu!
