On a cold  or rainy evening you want to comfort your soul and stomach…then go to this tiny new tavern. With its soft lighting, low ceilings, friendly relaxed atmosphere, Les Enfants Perdus are the children of the gentleman farmer. The team at work is young and laidback despite the starched uniforms. The kitchen timely churns out meticulously prepared and in most cases, revisited, french dishes on a menu that changes from season to season.

The brunch atmosphere is great, but better to call before you head out to reserve a table.

This four-star hotel is home to a haute-cuisine restaurant with a very original menu and 1 Michelin star. Michel Troisgros, a famed chef whose parents were the originators of French Nouvelle Cuisine, aptly composed a brief and exquisite menu and categorised all his creations according to taste. Here you can experience ZESTY “Fried frogs’ legs, spiced à la poudre du voyage”, PIQUANT “Red tuna, very lightly cooked, chanterelles and sorrel butter”, SHARP & BRIGHT “Grilled veal sweetbreads, olive and verjus sauce” or SWEET ”Apricot Dim-Sum, with a Southern jus”. The Lancaster is not a trendy place and may appeal to an older crowd but no one with a desire for an exceptional meal will be disappointed. Sunday Brunch on the terrace, 65 Euros, and worth every penny.

A real gem in the Mabillon quarter of St Germain, La Petite Cour is mostly known for its ultra romantic terrace that is so inviting, so softly lit, so relaxing with the sound of the fountain that one could linger there all night. The menu is seasonal but always refined and quite inventive – try the cherry gazpacho or a foie gras donut! The service is correct, the clientele tends to be on the older side, probably due to the fact that the average check for dinner for two is around 120 euros. Everyone knows Place Sainte Marthe as the place for a great party during the annual Fete de la Musique, but with its quaint atmosphere, this tiny square is a peaceful refuge any day of the year, when one wants to stretch out on a terrace and enjoy a quiet drink and a hearty meal. This particular bistro’s ambiance is nice enough for a romantic date  and the menu consists of traditional french dishes like grilled meat, duck, foie gras or creme brûlée for dessert. No real need to make reservations.

The  chesterfield English leather sofas, black and white tile flooring, rich red walls, velvet curtains, brass bars, very low lighting and allusions to gentleman clubs take you out of time and into the roaring 20’s… albeit minus the  smoking. If you are looking for a comfortable dinner you may be disappointed – lighting is much too low, but if you are coming to have proper cocktails in a proper lounge with a small appetizer on the side, it is an address to keep. On a sunny afternoon  ask for a table upstairs in the fumoir.  Try for a quiet corner table if you’re on a date.  The menu consists of updated Asian dishes. The service can be a little haughty but pay no attention. Reservations are preferred.

PS. Until recently this establishment was called China Club and downstairs jazz concerts still happen several times a week.
